Macro Trends 2026: Where the World is Moving (and Why It Needs You)

Hello Affiliates,

As we settle into March 2026, we’re seeing some fascinating shifts in the global relocation landscape.

For a notary or apostille agent, these “macro trends” aren’t just news—they are the roadmap to your next big commission.

When people move across borders, they don’t just take their suitcases; they take a mountain of paperwork that requires your seal and our translations.

Here’s what is “hot” right now and how to position yourself as the expert.

1. The Spain Surge: Beyond the Digital Nomad

Spain continues to be the #1 destination for Americans and Latin Americans alike.

Between the lifestyle, safety, and the “Beckham Law” tax perks, the influx is massive.

  • The Trend: Clients are moving for Digital Nomad Visas and Non-Lucrative Visas.
  • The Translation: They need Sworn Translations (Traducción Jurada).
  • The Workflow: Remember, the original document (birth certificate, FBI check, etc.) must be apostilled first. Once that’s done, we perform the sworn translation. The beauty? The translation itself does not need further notarization or an apostille. It’s ready for the Spanish Consulate as soon as we deliver it.

2. Portugal: The D7 is the New King

While the famous “Golden Visa” (residency by investment) has largely moved away from real estate, the D7 (Passive Income) Visa is stronger than ever.

  • The Trend: Retirees and those with remote income are flocking to Portugal for its safety and affordability.
  • The Translation: Unlike Spain, Portugal does not have a “sworn translator” system in the same way. We provide a standard certified translation which is widely accepted by Portuguese SEF/AIMA authorities.

3. Italy: The “Bureaucracy Boss”

Italy remains the most complex destination for document prep.

As we’ve discussed, they are famously picky.

  • The Trend: Jure Sanguinis (citizenship by descent) is at an all-time high.
  • The Strategy: Because Italian official translators in Italy are expensive and slow, we highly recommend the “Double Apostille” route:
    1. Apostille the original document.
    2. We translate the document + the apostille.
    3. You (the agent) get the translation itself apostilled. This is the fastest way to get documents accepted by Italian consulates without sending physical papers to a court in Rome.

4. The “Safety Shift”: From Mexico to Europe

For decades, Mexico was the default retirement spot for North Americans.

However, due to recent outbursts of violence in traditional expat hubs, we are seeing a notable “pivot.”

  • The Trend: Retirees who would have gone to Mexico are now “skipping” it and looking at the safety of Southern Europe (Spain, Portugal, Greece).
  • The Opportunity: These are clients with higher budgets who value security and professional service. They aren’t looking for the cheapest option; they are looking for the safest way to ensure their residency isn’t rejected.

Knowledge is Your Best Marketing Tool

When a client calls you for a “simple notary,” ask them: “Where is this document headed?”

If they say Spain, Portugal, or Italy, you now have the knowledge to upsell them on a full translation bundle that saves them months of stress.
